The one-size-fits-all method of heating has a lot of advantages, but it has a number of disadvantages as well. Most central forced-air heating systems have only two settings: on and off. Each room in the home has different heating needs, due to differences in insulation, sunlight exposure, and air flow. Applying the same amount of heat across the entire house will be just fine for some rooms, but will be too much or too little for others. This creates hot and cold spots throughout the house, as well as wasting quite a bit of energy in the long run.
